- When people in the media talk about the Death Row era, they
usually leave out the Dogg Food album. Do you
think that has alot to do with the "New York, New
York" track?
Daz
- Yeah, you know everybody was mad about that
situation and that must of kicked alot of beefs
off. I think they think the Dogg Pound kicked the
whole thing off. But you know, I'm just gonna
keep giving it 138 million percent.
ThaFormula.Com
- How did you guys feel about the CNN "LA, LA"
response record. Did you guys feel that it was a
dope track?
Daz
- Fuck No. That shit was wack. I just seen
that little video on youtube. I was like, that
shit was wack. Especially when I look at it
now. It wasn't even no diss song really.
They were talking about skills. They had Noreaga
in there and all them others. But we all hooked
up later on and settled everything after everybody got
killed and everything.
ThaFormula.Com
- Did you guys ever face any repercussions because of that New
York track?
Daz
- No, because we were doing our thing and anybody that stepped
to us, we were handlin' physically, mentally, and
lyrically. So it was like, when you come, come prepared.
ThaFormula.Com
- After the Dogg Food album, did you guys ever record anything
for the next album during that time?
Daz
- Yeah we recorded some stuff, but it was like some
mixed stuff. I was just producing for alot of
people. There is probably some shit on the
reels, that they don't even know I put on there.
So they don't even know what they got.
ThaFormula.Com
- How is it going with your solo album?
Daz
- It's going beautiful man. July 18th is when
it's droppin. Me and JD will be producin' the
album. I got Ric Ross, Kurupt, Snoop Dogg, JD and
you never know who else I might have on there.
ThaFormula.Com
- How do you approach the game nowadays knowing that you guys
are vets now, and no longer the up and coming young guns?
Daz
- It's all about getting with the youngsters. As
long as I got the youngsters bobbing their heads,
that's all that counts. They are the little
homies, so you know they look up to us. You have
to do some psychological research and manipulate the
situation, where you can turn it around for
yourself. I grew up by myself and I'm loved
everywhere because I showed that really, I don't need
anybody to help me do nothing.
ThaFormula.Com
- Do you feel that all the moves you made independently the
last few years are starting to pay off now?
Daz
- Yeah, it's starting to pay off. It showed
everybody that I was doing my own thing and had great
business senses.
ThaFormula.Com
- So what should people expect with the new Dogg Pound
album. How you comin'?
Daz
- We comin' crazy. We comin' laid back, we
comin' hard, with lyrics and all angles of the
game. I mean if you listen to hip hop today,
almost everybody took our shit. So we gonna come
with some new shit for everyone to take again.
ThaFormula.Com
- When they bite your shit like that. How do you look at
that?
Daz
- I look at it as respect and give me my
publishing.
ThaFormula.Com
- You know I'm not a big Swizz Beats fan, but that track he
did for you guys is dope. But at the same time,
it sounds like something straight out of Streets Is a
Mutha. I hope that's how you guys are coming on
the album.
Daz
- Yeah that type of feel. That's how we
comin'. Especially when it's put together with
all the skits and shit. It's a great
album. It's just the beginning and then we
coming right back with some more shit. We just
gonna keep hittin' them.
ThaFormula.Com
- Kurupt, when you look back, do you look at your West and East
coast double disk for your debut as a good idea?
Kurupt
- It was a growing experience. It was the first
record I ever did solo. Dre said I should have
just made it one CD and it would have took off, but it
was great because it was a good experience.
ThaFormula.Com
- Did you get alot of love in the East from the East Coast
disc?
Kurupt
- It wasn't too much of a big East Coast record.
It was mainly in the West Coast.
ThaFormula.Com
- How come your second album "The Streets Iz A
Mutha" was so much harder then your first album and did
you feel like you had something to prove on that album?
Kurupt
- I don't know. I mean Daz produced the second
album so you know me and Daz vibe together totally
different. Me solo wise, I was trying to find
myself actually. The Streets iz A Mutha was more
like a Dogg Pound record.
ThaFormula.Com
- I always felt that your album was better then Dre's
"2001", mainly because of how hard you came lyrically
on that album?
Kurupt
- I was on fire on that one right there man. I
got a new one coming that is fittin' to heat it up.
ThaFormula.Com
- So what exactly was the deal with the Kurupt album that
dropped on Death Row?
Kurupt -
Well you know, we parted ways. Then they just
decided to grab a bunch of records we recorded and
just put it out. But hey, what can I do about
it. It's definitely not a Kurupt
record.
ThaFormula.Com
- So what vibe are you bringin' with the new Dogg Pound album?
Kurupt -
The Dogg Pound album is partying and having a
ball. It's for the women, ladies, bitches, hoes,
street niggaz, white collars, blue collars. It's
for everybody. It's gangsta shit on there.
We got it all. Swizz Beats gave us a killer
track.
ThaFormula.Com
- I never see anyone ask you about your old Wake Up Show days
man, when you used to call in and battle on the
air. You seemed unbeatable during that era
man...
Kurupt -
You ain't lyin' and I still ain't lost. DPG is
back in effect man. It brings the best out of
all of us, but you can judge for yourself. With
the Wake Up Show, I just love MC'ing man.
Anything to do with MC shit, Imma be there to burn
that bitch down. I'd come down with that Dogg
Pound and eat that ass up. We went there one
time, I chewed it to bits & pieces. They
invited me again, I chewed it to bits &
pieces. Everytime they invited me, I chewed it
to bits & pieces. (laughs) Ahh, them was the
days man.
ThaFormula.Com
- I thought it was dope how you would call in and battle dudes
on the phone...
Kurupt -
Damn right! Chew that ass all up via phone
(Laughs). I had a ball with all of it man.
That was fun for me. I can't really recall who,
what and where. I would just chew it up and spit
the bones out. There is so many layers of bones,
I can't calculate them all (Laughs).
ThaFormula.Com
- I also remember when you were at the station battling anyone
who called in one by one...
Kurupt -
Chopped they ass up. I let them know man.
I would call them random slaughters because I could do
this shit randomly (Laughs). They just don't
know.
ThaFormula.Com
- So do you ever plan on dropping another album like
"Streets Iz A Mutha"?
Kurupt -
Damn right! I got one coming called
"Underground Vol. 1 - Young Gotti - Same Day,
Different Shit." Executive produced by
Kurupt and Daz. Produced by Daz. Each year
I'm gonna drop an underground Young Gotti album that
is different from the album I release in the major
market. I got a deal with Snoop's Doggystyle
label. So each year Imma drop an underground
Young Gotti album with Daz where every record has
"The Streets Iz A Mutha" vibe. Just
fireballs!
